molecular AST REPORTING

Our proprietary molecular AST research assay and software technology helps streamline research laboratory workflow and generate customized molecular phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility results within one day or less. This RUO technology bridges the gap between Molecular PCR testing with antibiotic resistance genes alone and traditional phenotypic culture susceptibility. Report detection and sensitivity results formatted for clients to find intuitive and recognizable.

How To read each page of the report

Multifloral Specimen with Molecular AST

Only bacterial targets detected at >10,000 cells/mL reflex to Molecular AST.

Summary phenotypic susceptibility table:

  • Provides a summary of sensitive agents for all pathogens that underwent molecular phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility testing.
  • Summary provided if 2 or more pathogens underwent molecular AST testing

Molecular AST results for each pathogen

Each organism’s phenotypic molecular antibiotic susceptibility result is determine and available for review.

If there's not at least one antibiotic sensitive for all pathogens?

If not, a disclaimer is provided to alert the team to look at the individual organisms' molecular AST tables.

Remove the Ambiguity

Limitations in both culture and PCR testing can result in differing outcomes, even from the same sample. PCR is capable of detecting multiple organisms and resistance genes, whereas culture is constrained in its ability to identify multifloral reactions. Consequently, the organisms and susceptibility profiles reported may differ, creating challenges in result interpretation.

How AST Differs
Molecular AST generates resistance profiles for each organism identified through PCR. Results are presented in a clear, concise format. By combining the accuracy of AST in predicting resistance with the high specificity of organism identification, the method eliminates ambiguity and improves the reliability of interpretation.

Sanford Guide for Low Level Positives

  • Provided for all specimens with < 10,000 cells/mL of pathogen detected
  • Includes each organism’s typical phenotypic susceptibility information
  • Allows for efficient research decision making in real time

Additional table helpful in scenarios with:

  • Multiple allergies
  • Medical conditions that limit antibiotic options
  • When an IV agent is indicated (ex: undergoing surgery)
